Holidaymakers will be able to access the Takaka Hill Rd in and out of Golden Bay all day until 8pm over the Easter period.
Frank Porter, NZ Transport Agency system manager, confirmed the road will be open from 8am – 8pm this weekend, from Good Friday to Easter Monday.
On Thursday afternoon, it will open from 3pm through to 9pm to allow the Easter traffic to get in and out of the bay.
However, if it rained heavily and small slips occurred like over the past weekend, crews would still work to maintain the convoys in the advertised times.

“But people should bear in mind there may be delays and check the Transport Agency’s website or social media for updates,” he said.
The hours for opening the hill road in the evenings were extended at the end of last week.
The new weekday and (non-Easter) Saturday open hours are 6-8 am in the morning and 5-9 pm in the evening.
On Sundays, the road would continue to be open from 8am to 8pm, as crews would not be working on the rebuild that day.
Permit-only freight and other urgent journeys across the hill are fitted in at midday weekdays and Saturdays.
The highway has been open for morning and evening convoys after ex-tropical-cyclone Gita caused a large amount of damage on February 20.
